Palmerston North city is surrounded by a walkway used by cyclists, walkers, dog walkers and horse riders. The walkway follows the river for much of its length.
The Regent on Broadway opened in 1930 and was restored in the 1990s.
There are 1393 seats in the theatre, and it is one of New Zealand's top four performing arts venues.
Centrepoint Theatre in Palmerston North is the only professional theatre outside the four major cities in New Zealand. It was founded in 1974, has 140 seats, and puts on six main bill shows per year plus another 15-20 'alternative' late night shows in the theatre's studio space - the dark room.
Palmerston North hospital is one of the city's largest employers with over 2000 staff, half of whom are registered nurses. The hospital serves a catchment of 160,000.
